Daryl is currently a PhD student in the lab of Prof. Matthias Horn within the Department of Microbial Ecology at the University of Vienna. He received his Bachelor’s degrees in molecular biology and microbiology from the University of Wyoming, where he began working in the laboratory of Dr. Naomi Ward with the aim of developing genetic systems for members of the Planctomycetes andVerrucomicrobia. Continuing this research for his Master’s degree in molecular biology, Daryl successfully transformed Verrucomicrobium spinosum and Gemmata obscuriglobus, marking the first genetic systems for these phyla. His current research interests are the symbiotic associations between environmental chlamydiae and their amoeba hosts.
